Greg & John Russo
When John Russo was fourteen years old, his Aunt Rose Russo told him to "take over the wine business." So John studied wine and marketing books, and hooked up with some industry professionals who mentored John so he could become a respected wine merchant and educator. John works with the best vintners, brokers, and importers to carefully select the best quality wines at value prices. Greg Russo has been working at his father's side for many years and is carrying on the family tradition.

This is the wine you may have seen your father dipping his biscotti in after dinner. In recent years Vin Santo has become hard to come by. I heard from a Greek wine specialist that Italy is not allowed to call this dessert wine "Vin Santo" anymore. From what I'm told, this is an ancient Greek wine that Italians took and ran with(we've always been entrepeneurs). Now, by law it will have to come from Greece to give it theis classic name. I found the this one being cellared by the Lanciola winery so I brought some in. The 2004 Lanciola Vin Santo has flavors of apricot, honey, and other candied fruits. It's sweet, rich, and silky with a long lingering candy finish. Serve with cannoli, biscotti, or teramisu with your holiday dinner.
A crowd pleaser from Campania, Italy. Now DOC rated by the Italian government keeping the quality standards high, the 2012 Terra di Brigante Falanghina is an excellent adition to the table. This dry white is bright with tropical and banana flavors with great acidity and minerality. It is very crisp while maintaining an underlying buttery toasted vanilla that lingers on the finish. As I drink it, I can't stop taking in the nose of tropical fruit and fresh sea breeze. Pairs amazing with seafood and chicken alfredo or just on its own. The winery uses fully sustainable and organic practices so no need to worry about anything that isn't natural in the glass. Enjoy!
